(The Netherlands--September 10, 2018) Netherlands-based startup Zoho Studio specializes in creating 3D animated original IP and is currently in development on its first feature “Oliver’s Travels,” a delightful adventure that follows a young polar bear as he leaves the zoo in search of his true home. To help close the project’s budget, Zoho created a brief character teaser, which introduced Oliver and his bird sidekick Tony, for potential buyers at the Marche du Film during the 2018 Cannes International Film Festival.
Though faced with a time crunch, the engaging :79 full CG teaser was rendered in less than 24 hours on the Conductor cloud platform, with over 98 percent of the renders completed using economical pre-emptible instances.
“The clip was crucial to securing final funding for ‘Oliver’s Travels’ and I don’t think we would have been able to deliver such a high-quality asset in such a short timeline without Conductor, especially considering the furry and feathery nature of the characters,” said Zoho Studio founder Rob Vermeulen. “Conductor works with premium producers and studios, so we were confident in its security, and found the team to be very approachable. To be honest, I was quite surprised by how affordable and seamless it made rendering the project, not to mention the results are amazing.”
Vermeulen, who has nearly 20 years of experience developing and producing live action and animated projects across features, television and commercials for global audiences as co-founder and producer at independent production company Holland Harbor, founded Zoho with a number of guiding principles. It was important the production pipeline be rooted in the cloud to allow the studio to easily collaborate with artists around the globe. Also, Vermeulen wanted the studio to be fully scalable, while keeping overhead as low as possible.
“Cloud rendering is a no-brainer, and our experience working with Conductor has been very positive; they’re a customer- and solution-driven company and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them,” Vermeulen noted. “From a product standpoint, Conductor’s approach to renders is insightful. The render management environment is very easy to use – for my render supervisor as well as for the production manager, who kept an eye on costs and planning. And all of the third-party software and plug-ins offered in Conductor are up-to-date, something I have not experienced with other cloud rendering providers.”
Zoho is currently scaling up for production on “Oliver’s Travels,” which Vermeulen estimates will begin late 2018. The studio is also preparing for to create 20 minutes of animation for live-action fantasy film “Frankie & Chair,” scheduled to shoot in spring 2019.
